John F. Kennedy Space Center Presents: Solid Rocket Booster Retrieval Simulation Visit the NASA Home page: http://www.nasa.gov |
This is an interactive simulation of the retrieval of the Solid Rocket Boosters. The following is a complete description of what takes place during this simulation. The initial screen displays an image of one of the booster recovery ships in the ocean against a golden orange sunset with birds flying past. A button appears to be clicked to bring the visitor to the next screen. At this time an aerial view of the area is displayed and a small box with mission briefing notes appears explaining the following: Mission Briefing: Take the recovery ships the Freedom Star and Liberty Star and recover the SRBs.Select the button at the lower right portion of the screen to continue. The next screen shows a drawing of the cross section of one of the solid rocket boosters and a movie that runs in the lower right hand side of the screen. This movie shows the fall of the boosters after being detached from the Shuttle after launch. At the end of the movie a button is displayed which needs to be pressed in order to continue. The next screen is in a blue gradient and displays a background image of one of the retrieval vessels. The overlay gives 10 options for selection in the quest to retrieve the boosters. The visitor must select the options in order to see a color change and a movie appropriate to the item chosen. If the wrong item is chosen a male image shakes his head in the negative and you must select again. As you move through the game the items chosen and utilized are dimmed out so that you know they have already been successfully selected. The options to chose are: 1. Insert DOP (diver operated plug) deviceAfter successfully moving through the simulation a credit screen appears and then you have the option of returning to this simulation, the main screen or exiting. |
